Sr. Glenys

Welcome to 'Sr. G's Corner. Keep watching this space for a report on the recent ICDA - Canadian Section Conference, which was hosted by we of the VCDA, here in Vancouver. According to the Delegates from across North America, it was a very enjoyable and enlightening Conference. According to our Host Team and all those who worked so hard on the various Committees, it was a very successful Conference - because everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, and because our Team  survived  all the behind the scenes work!

Please check in again soon and see pictures of our Keynote Speaker/Workshop Leaders - Fr. Tom Coughlin, O.P and Fr. Harry Stocks, C.S.C. the Host Chapter and the Delegates who attended.

In the last 'Sr. G's Little Corner', I explained why I had chosen to call my page by that name - and told you about the little Children's Hymn I loved but could not recall all the words.

Well, Dear Readers, a young woman who is HH, and newly received into the Catholic Church, kindly forwarded me a link that had the history of the Hymn, the Composers biographies, and the words with music. Thanks to 'R'. for sending it in.

Well, you know how it is with Hearing Folks - I just had to log-on to the Link, run the words and music and sat here in my Little Corner of The World, reliving my childhood and singing the little Hymn I had learned so long ago. However I soon began to change it into ASL and ended up Signing the song instead of singing it! I will put the words and history of this little Hymn up on the my Page as soon as I get more time.

Right now we are experiencing a Heat Wave and my thoughts are down on the beach with the sea blowing a lovely cooling breeze over me. My thoughts are there, but the rest of me is at home catching up on practicing my computer skills! Still I am very blessed because as soon as I can get away, I will be down on the Beach after a short 30-40 minute drive.

I thank God every day that I live in such a beautiful place, so instead of focusing on how stuffy it is in this little room in front of my computer, I think it is time for me to remember all those who cannot escape the heat, have no car or are unable to use Public Transport. I need to remember those who are homeless and without money to drive or travel to a beautiful beach, and the children who are trapped in poverty and sad family situations, children who are never taken on even a local outing to Parks and Beaches.

I am thinking of the elderly who can no longer drive, who maybe need a Walker or a Wheelchair - how difficult it is for them to get out without someone else to help. I now realize I am so blessed because I will go over to a Nursing Home, where a dear lady from my Parish is now living, and take her for a trip to her favourite Beach tomorrow. I also can look back and remember walking by the Ocean with P.&L., a lovely Deaf American couple who came to our Conference, and watching a beautiful sunset over the ocean with the soft hazy shapes of Islands in the distance. It was a very special evening and I am so grateful to have met two very special members of the U.S. Deaf Community.

Now I do not feel so hot, stuffy and tired - my heart is lifted and my spirit renewed because I was able to share some of the events and blessings in my life with all of you. Now, that is truly a blessing!

The Blessing Candle is once again burning brightly in my Little Corner - I pray your Little Corner's are all aglow with the light from your Blessing Candles.

God bless each of you.

Peace,

Sr. Glenys Marion
